Mortal Kombat' is nostalgia bait for 90's kids, but doesn't have what we loved about the game

Finally after what seems like an eternity, people are beginning to return to theaters and what better way to start your trips back than with a good fashion gore fight fest. Mortal Kombat is one of the best selling fighting games of all time and also famous for creating the ESRB rating since as you all may know this game is a little violent. None the less if there's one thing this movie delivers on (and it's not the plot), it is the gore and fighting. The main thing that carries this movie is definitely the action and when it wants you to feel it, you definitely feel it. Although some action scenes feel choppy, for the most part the fights are epic, pleasing, gory, and fun! There has been heavy debate over if the film should also try to focus on a good storyline or just focus on putting everything into the fights. I believe that having a good storyline creates overall better entertainment for viewers to enjoy, so seeing that this films story was mediocre was very disappointing. The writers for Mortal Kombat, Greg Russo and dave Callahan did not seem to have that true passion for the film as the original writers for the original Mortal Kombat did. Most of the characters had no personalty besides Kano (Josh Lawson), who hands down played an amazing role and could not have been cast more perfectly! Along with bad character dialogue came the awkward jump cuts and weird story magic that was no present in the original films or video games. Overall a fun film to see at the movies, but when they eventually make a sequel I hope they get writers who really are passionate about this incredible franchise. It has potential.
